Prevalence of Class II Malocclusion in Tumkur Population

Aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of class II malocclusion in Tumkur population, Karnataka. This study comprises data from 16,000 patients (9300 females and 6700 males) in the age group of 15-30 years who attended the O.P.D. of Sri Siddhartha Dental college & Hospital, Urban Health CenterSSIT and Private Dental practitioners of Tumkur City between Jan 2009 to Dec 2009. None of them had received previous orthodontic treatment, occlusal anteroposterior relationships were assessed based on the Angle's classification and patients were examined by intraoral examination using mouth mirror and probe. Study showed that about 10% of were having class II malocclusion, of which about 8.8% were class II div 1 malocclusion and 2.2% were class II div 2 malocclusion and there was no statistically significant gender difference among the subjects studied. The study showed similar pattern of class II malocclusion prevalence among Tumkur population as seen in the literature. There was significant gender difference in class II malocclusion prevalence.
